**io.Connect Desktop 10.4** is out with new authentication options, support for isolated browser sessions for apps, more observability around Workspaces and io.Manager operations, and additional control over downloads, storage and window behavior.

## [OpenID Connect Authentication](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-openid_connect_authentication)

io.Connect Desktop now supports authentication through **OpenID Connect (OIDC)**, allowing organizations to use providers using IODC without implementing a custom authentication controller.

The login can be displayed in the system browser (recommended), while the redirect back to io.Connect Desktop can use a loopback HTTP server or, when necessary, a custom protocol scheme.

## [Isolated Browser Sessions for Apps](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-isolated_browser_sessions_for_apps)

Apps can now run in **isolated browser sessions** , separating their cookies, cache, local storage and session storage from the default session and from other isolated sessions.

This is particularly useful when running multiple instances of the same app authenticated as different users, or when an app shouldn’t share browsing data with the rest of the platform.

[App configuration documentation →](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/developers/configuration/application/index.html#isolated_browser_sessions_for_apps)

## Better Observability for Workspaces & io.Manager

io.Insights now publishes a [`workspace_selected` metric](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-workspace_selection_metric), making it possible to see how often users switch between Workspaces and which Workspace Layouts they actually use.

Commands sent from io.Manager are also now [included in distributed traces](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-tracing_commands_sent_from_iomanager), allowing an operation to be followed from the io.Manager request through to its execution on io.Connect Desktop.

## More Control from Apps & Configuration

10.4 adds several smaller controls that make common workflows easier:

- **[Clearing cache & storage data](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-clearing_cache__storage_data)** – new `clearStorageData()` and `clearAuthCache()` methods are available through the `iodesktop` object.

- **[Download file paths](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-download_file_path)** – download information now includes the path of the downloaded file.

- **[Window title priority](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-window_title_priority)** – control which source takes precedence when the window title can come from the user, API, HTML document or app definition.

- **[Suppressing system error dialogs](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-suppressing_system_error_dialogs)** – system dialogs for unhandled exceptions and unhandled Promise rejections in the platform’s main process can now be suppressed, so the error is written to the platform logs instead of being shown to the user.

## Also Worth Noting

The release adds [better handling of transparency with hardware acceleration](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-transparency__hardware_acceleration), more control over [Workspace tab title overflow](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#new_features-workspace_tab_title_overflow), and several fixes around Layouts, Workspace tabs and app visibility.

### Developer Note

The [Intent Resolver now uses the Displays API](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#breaking_changes-intent_resolver__displays_api). If the Intent Resolver UI is enabled, the Displays API will also be enabled even if it has been explicitly disabled. To disable the Displays API, the Intent Resolver UI must now be disabled as well.

Two minor updates were released:

## 10.4.1

- Fixed an issue related to tracking downloads initiated by hidden windows
- Fixed a [known issue](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#known_issues "https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4/index.html#known\_issues") with the `system_memory` [platform metric](https://docs.interop.io/insights/signals/metrics/io-connect-desktop/index.html#system-systemmemory "https://docs.interop.io/insights/signals/metrics/io-connect-desktop/index.html#system-systemmemory"), which was incorrectly labeled as KB, instead of GB, in **io.Connect Desktop** 10.4. The metric is now correctly labeled as GB again, so it will appear with the expected name and legend in your visualizations. Dashboard queries patched to `=~ "system_memory_(kb|gb)"` because of this will keep working.

## 10.4.2

- Introduced a new feature [Awaited Apps in the Boot Sequence Signals](https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4-2/index.html#new_features-awaited_apps_in_the_boot_sequence_signals "https://docs.interop.io/desktop/getting-started/changelog/platform/10-4-2/index.html#new\_features-awaited\_apps\_in\_the\_boot\_sequence\_signals")
- Fixed an issue related to properly respecting the values of the `"waitForInitialization"` property in the boot sequence configuration of an app,
- Fixed an issue on Windows that could cause the platform to freeze during startup on machines on which security software delays the first load of the platform binaries.
- Fixed an issue related to starting io.Connect Desktop via a protocol handler while the platform is already running.
